The liver organoids of crab-eating monkeys are derived from adult liver stem cells/progenitor cells (ALSCs) in liver tissue, also known as hepatoblasts, which can be divided into hepatocytes and cholangiocytes.The liver is the body's main metabolic organ, responsible for drug metabolism, bile acid synthesis, protein synthesis and glycolipid metabolism.Monkey liver organoids are particularly suitable for drug metabolism enzyme research (CYP450 enzyme system) and drug-induced liver injury (DILI) prediction.In 2023, Jiang et al. established the liver ductal organoids of crab-eating monkeys and found that they showed the most significant expression of drug metabolism enzymes and transporter proteins among all tested organoids.The enzyme profile of CYP450 in the liver of non-human primates is highly similar to that of humans (especially the homology of CYP3A8 and human CYP3A4), and it is the "gold standard" animal model for drug metabolism research.
