Mouse gallbladder organoids (Gallbladder Cholangiocyte Organoids, GCOs) are derived from cholangiocytes in the epithelium of the gallbladder of mice.Gallbladder and bile duct cells express Lgr5 and bile duct markers Cldn3, EpCAM, Prom1, Sox17 and Itga6.Compared with intrahepatic bile duct organoids (ICOs), organoids derived from the gallbladder grow faster (mature organoids form in 5-7 days), but the culture period is shorter; express bile duct cell-specific markers Krt7 and Krt19, but do not have the ability to differentiate into hepatocyte-like cells.The gallbladder organoids provide an important in vitro model for the study of bile duct diseases, cholestasis, and biliary tract development.
